![]() ![]() David Breitkopf from New YorkI was wondering if the Beatles ever performed I should have known better live? I didn’t find a version on YouTube, and I’ve googled the question and there is no indication from any webpages that they did in fact play it live.Huh, even "punk" bands were influenced by the Beatles. That's the beauty of the studio, bro! (though a lot of artists nowadays tend to abuse this power) I just want to add that I noticed that the harmonica part in Green Day's "Hold On" sounds a lot like John's part in this song. Luna Loud from Royal Woods, MichiganYo, another teenage Beatle fan here! To David from NY, I don't think they've ever performed this song live, as it would be hard for John to sing the vocal part, then go right into the harmonica bit without skipping a beat.Mark Lewisohn, The Beatles Recording Sessions, p. 'And I Love Her' and 'I Should Have Known Better' were re-made by the Beatles, the latter song first. Only three takes were attempted, and only one of those made it through to the end. 'I Should Have Known Better' was also different at this early stage, John originally opening it with a very Bob Dylan-ish harmonica solo and George ending it with his lead guitar. ![]() John Lennon, in 1964, The Beatles Anthology, p.129, 2000 There are four I really go for: 'Can't Buy Me Love', 'If I Fell', 'I Should Have Known Better' - a song with harmonica we feature during the opening tram sequences - and 'Tell Me Why', a shuffle number that comes at the end of the film. ![]() And three more completed in America, while we were soaking up the sun on Miami Beach. But we managed to get a couple finished while we were in Paris. There were times when we honestly thought we'd never get the time to write all the material. ![]() Paul and I enjoyed writing the music for the film. Just a song - It doesn't mean a damn thing. ![]()
